CHCS 25th Anniversary Fact #30 -- Web Worker Daily

In 2009, Charlie began writing for the well-known tech blog Web Worker Daily. He's been reviewing software, web apps, and gadgets, as well as producing commentaries on running a small technology business. He's having great fun, and hopes that CHCS clients find the information useful.

In 2007, we began offering Google Apps to CHCS customers. This suite, including mail, a calendar, and online document editing, has proven to be very popular. We combine its functionality with our customer service!

CHCS 25th Anniversary Fact #26 -- Connected to social networks

In 2007, Charlie joined LinkedIn and Facebook. CHCS began positioning websites as the "hub" of the various web presences clients have -- social networks, blogs, Twitter, and so on. We also teach clients how to best take advantage of the latest trends in social networks.

CHCS 25th Anniversary Fact #25 -- The updated CHCS.com

In 2006, we made some major revisions to our website. It was redesigned by Darren, and much of it was rewritten by Tara (who's now married to Darren). We think that the site still looks great, although small changes are made frequently.

CHCS 25th Anniversary Fact #24 -- Our content management system

In 2005, we developed the first version of the CHCS content management system. The CMS allows our customers to edit their own websites through a simple, secure online interface. There are many other CMS systems available, but we've found that they have either too few options, or are too difficult to learn. Many of our clients have told us how much they like our system, and we're currently working on version 3.

From 2004-2007, we supported HistoryLink, the Washington state history site. We helped out with programming, and Charlie wrote an occasional article on such topics as the Fremont Troll.

CHCS 25th Anniversary Fact #22 -- Interactive community map

In 2003, we developed an interactive map showing businesses, transit, and bike information for our neighborhood, under contract with the Seattle Department of Transportation. This was before services like Google Maps made such things easy; we had to create our own design and navigation. And while we had access to the city's GIS data, bike rack locations had to be added manually, since no one had ever mapped them before.

In 2002, CHCS became the second ISP in the Puget Sound region to implement the spam- and virus-blocking service Postini, which was later bought by Google and became the basis for its filtering systems.

CHCS 25th Anniversary Fact #19 -- Online directory

In 2001, we produced a major revision to the website for the East King County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Unfortunately, it is no longer available, but it was a complex site that included a directory that could be updated by the organization's members, a web coupon system, and many other advanced features. CHCS received an award for our work on this site in 2002.
